sputnik

Sputnik 2022 will be February 16th-19th!

And this year, it’s going to be on Discord.

Normally, Sputnik is a 3-night, 4-day get-together in the winter countryside at a centuries-old New Hampshire farm. It is a time for forging relationships, for meaningful interactions, for playing games in the living room and out in the snow, and for putting aside your cell phones and digital distractions. Think kind of like summer camp, but in the winter, and for adults.

Because of Covid-19, this year we are going to use an online platform during the evenings of February 16th and 17th, and during the days of February 18th and 19th. To learn more, please see the Details page. Attendance at every event is neither assumed nor expected, though of course we hope to see as much of you as we can! The conference this year is also free, though donations are welcome.

As a community, we have affirmed that we value:

  • Building community and meaningful relationships, even when building those connections is challenging or effortful;
  • Challenging our personal limits, social norms, and everyday routines, while also respecting each others’ boundaries;
  • Demonstrating honesty and emotional integrity;
  • Engaging in creativity and play.

We also value a culture of purposeful inclusion and value the diversity of racial and cultural identity and background, nationality, sexual and affectional orientation, gender identity and its expression, religious background and belief, marital status, family structure, age, mental and physical health and ability, political perspective, and educational and class status.

Please read the longer version of our values statement, including a description of the community-based process through which we created it.
